The fourth book in the series, PARAMETER, will be available late-Spring 2013!

 Parallel (Travelers #1)

Destiny has a way of catching up.

Saddled with powers she doesn't understand, Etta Fleming's world is turned upside-down the day she meets Cooper Everett, the man who transports her to an alternate reality. A reality she was meant to be a part of.

One minute, she's an orphan living at Dominion House for Girls, an institution for delinquent foster kids, then finds herself attending the exclusive Dominion Hall Academy.

Plucked from the only world she's ever known, Etta now has to deal with an aunt she never knew, a boyfriend she doesn't know, and a best friend who can't know.

Excerpt from Parallel:

“Ouch!” I whip around and spot a group of girls playing lacrosse. The back of my head continues to throb where the ball made contact.

“Sooo sorry,” a voice calls out followed by hollow laughter.

I’d recognize that apology anywhere. A tall lithe blonde comes rushing in my direction in order to claim her ball. There’s no doubt in my mind that she’s the one responsible for the pathetic attempt at an apology. Per her usual M.O., she doesn’t sound sorry at all.

“Come on Etta, it’s not worth getting into it with her.” Jaime miraculously appears by my side just in time to grab me by the shoulder. Her attempt is clear: to steer me away from a confrontation. As always, Jaime takes the position of buffer when it comes to me getting into trouble.

Even though I recognized the voice, I still manage to do a double take at the girl running towards us. “Who is that?” I ask anyway, already knowing the answer. I have a feeling this isn’t going to be the end of me and Lacrosse Barbie and I want to be sure.

“You sure you’re okay? The ball must have hit you harder than I thought. That’s Jenny, duh. You know, her dad’s the Mexican Ambassador? Access to free booze because her family owns and operates Mexia beer? Super bitch from hell? Ring any bells?” Jaime looks at me curiously. “And judging from bump on your head, she must really have it in for you.”

My eyes narrow as I watch Jenny claim her ball and trot back to her group of giggling friends. The Barbie Brigade is just going to have to watch out. If they think they’re dealing with the same Etta, they’re in for a rude awakening – they have no idea who they’re messing with now.

 Paradox (Travelers #2)

Everything is predestined.

Etta is slowly readjusting to life in her new reality, while still recovering from the shock over the news regarding her relationship with Cooper.

While learning more about her role as leader of the Council, she soon discovers that her future is linked to the five extraordinary individuals she must recruit in order to ensure her destiny.

Nothing is as it seems, as rivals become allies and friends become the enemy.

 Paradigm (Travelers #3)
Take hold of your destiny.

Etta Fleming doesn’t know she was meant to return to her true reality four years ago. After years of being the “orphan girl” in the alternate world she grew up in, she’s finally carved a niche for herself with a great job, a steady boyfriend, and a best friend by her side.

Undeterred by the shift in the timeline, it is up to Cooper Everett and his friends to convince Etta that she is still destined to become their leader, fighting against their post-apocalyptic future.

Will meeting the ghosts of her past convince Etta that she’s part of a grander destiny? Or will her past, present, and future worlds collide?

Frost Fire (Tortured Elements #1) by Olivia Rivers

“Magic is just like love, Allai. It won’t wait for permission before it destroys you.”

Like sand in an hourglass, Allai’s future is dwindling away. She’s spent her entire life fighting the Mages who threaten humanity, and dreams of someday eradicating magic. But all it takes is an anonymous phone call for the truth to spill out: Allai is the one thing she despises most.

She’s a Mage.

Though ancient law mandates Allai’s death, she still has one last chance of survival. His name is Drake Rhaize, and he swears he can lead Allai to a sanctuary for Mages. Allai hasn’t seen Drake in years, but she remembers him as the Demon boy who used to hold her close and softly whisper that he’d keep her safe. But Drake has changed since then: He’s now suspected of murder, and has been out-casted for betraying his own kind.

While Allai doesn’t trust Drake, she has no choice but to put her life in his hands and hope he can get her to safety. Because Allai’s father has hired a pack of Demons to bring her back to him, dead or alive–and Demons never stop the hunt.

War has taken everything from me. My family. My home. My innocence. In a country blasted by war and wracked by economic hardship, a young orphan girl like me has very few options when it comes to survival. Thus, I do what I must to live, to eat, and I try very hard to not consider the cost to my soul. My heart is empty, and my existence brutal.

The one impossibility in my life is love.

And then I meet HIM.

War is hell. It takes a chunk out of a man's very soul to do the kinds of things war demands of you. You live with fear, you live with guilt, and you live with nightmares. If you haven't been through it, there's no understanding it. War leaves no room for love, no room for tenderness or softness. You gotta be hard, closed off, and ready to fight every moment of every day. Lose focus for a split second, and you're dead.

Now the only thing that can save me is HER.

Review:

Wounded by Jasinda Wilder is a powerful story about two people finding love during a brutal war. Rania is a broken woman who leads an awful life. Her family has been killed in the war and she lives all alone. At a very young age, she has to sell her body so that she can have money to buy food. Hunter is an American soldier stationed in Iraq. When he gets injured, she takes him to her home to care for him.

Against all odds, a beautiful relationship happens between these two. It's a forbidden relationship really – they should be enemies. There is also a huge language barrier in the way. They don't speak each other's language, but they somehow find a way to still communicate with one another. While Hunter is staying with her, Rania must still go next door where she “works”, whenever an Iraqi man is ready for her. Not only does she do this to be able to feed herself, she does it to buy food and medicine for Hunter.

This story is told from alternating points of view, which I think is essential in this book. I really liked each of these characters. If I was in Rania's shoes, I would probably rather die than have to live that way. She is a mentally strong woman, but yet feels like she is worthless. Hunter is perfect for her – he is patient, loving, and gentle. From the beginning, he hated what she did for a living...but he did not judge her for it.

The beginning was a little slow for me, but I understand the need for it in order to set up the story. Especially from Rania's standpoint. Her childhood plays a large part for readers to understand why she makes the choices she does, and how she got to be to this point. The author did an amazing job with the world building. The details of the surroundings in Iraq are descriptive, but not overly so. It shows the horrid conditions that these people must live in. Of course, I don't live there, so I don't know how accurate everything is – but it seems very believable to me.

Hunter and Rania end up having such an intense connection. There was a lot of steam during the second half of the book. There were many erotic moments, but it wasn't just about the sex. It was about teaching Rania the difference between sex and making love. This is a very passionate story that I recommend to any adults that aren't squeamish about reading sex scenes. The ending is wrapped up nicely, and ends perfectly.

Review:

None of the Regular Rules is a coming of age story about Sophie, who is getting ready to start her senior year of high school. Sophie and her friends find something in the glove box of her car – a car that used to belong to her deceased aunt Suzy. It seems to be a bucket list of things that Suzy wanted to accomplish. Sophie decides to tackle each of the things on the list, with the help of her friends, to fulfill her aunt's last wishes.

This really is a great young adult contemporary story. Sophie feels that her life is boring and that she isn't going anywhere in life. She thinks that doing the crazy things on the list might add some excitement, and make her feel closer to her aunt. Things go well at first. She takes chances that she would never have done otherwise. The list starts taking over her life though, and Sophie and her friends start to grow apart. I liked her friends for the most part, but sometimes they got on my nerves. However, they had important issues that they were dealing with too.

The love interest in this story is Sophie's neighbor, Johnny. They slowly become friends and he helps Sophie with some of the things on her list. He is such a sweet and likable guy, but unfortunately he has a girlfriend. Sophie really starts to fall for him, but refuses to let their relationship go past friendship – even though his relationship with his long-distance girlfriend is “complicated”.

This isn't exactly a lighthearted story – there are a lot of emotions involved. The book reminds you that everyone is dealing with something, and life isn't always happy-go-lucky all of the time. The premise of the story is really unique and interesting. This is a very plot-driven book, though I would have liked more romance involved. That's just me though – I say that about a lot of books. I'm a romance fanatic. I highly recommend this book to young adults, as well as not-quite-so-young adults like me!
