Title: Best Kind of Broken (Finding Fate #1)
Author: Chelsea Fine
Source: Received copy through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review
Synopsis:
Pixie and Levi haven't spoken in nearly a year when they find themselves working―and living―at the same inn in the middle of nowhere. Once upon a time, they were childhood friends. But that was before everything went to hell. And now things are... awkward.
All they want to do is avoid each other, and their past, for as long as possible. But now that they're forced to share a bathroom, and therefore a shower, keeping their distance from one another becomes less difficult than keeping their hands off each other. Welcome to the hallway of awkward tension and sexual frustration, folks. Get comfy. It’s going to be a long summer.
Review:
Best Kind of Broken is the first book
in the Finding Fate series by Chelsea Fine. This is a New Adult book
and I absolutely loved it. Here we have two college students –
Pixie and Levi. They were childhood friends for years and they
drifted apart a year prior to this book starting.
Pixie moves into the Inn that her aunt
owns during summer break from college. What her aunt doesn't tell
her, is that Levi is staying there too (in the next room). They both
end up working there for the summer – and sharing a bathroom, which
leads to many humorous arguments between them. It also leads to a lot
of tension. And sexual tension. And more tension. Pixie and Levi
desperately try to avoid each other. But this book is more than just
about a couple of people trying to avoid each other and failing
desperately.
This book is heavy. Not literally, but
emotionally. I won't say why Pixie and Levi stopped talking a year
ago because I don't want to spoil anything. This is the kind of
heart-wrenching book that will make your chest hurt while you are
reading it. It's not light and fluffy. I will say though, that it
does have a happy ending. Because I know that is a deal breaker with
some people. I, personally, avoid books if I know there is no happy
ending.
Pixie and Levi are meant for each
other, but they are so stubborn and frustrating that it takes them a
long time to realize this. You will want to ring both their necks,
several times, before you finish the book. There is some mystery
throughout the book, because it takes a long time to find out what
the big secret is that everyone is avoiding. The author gives little
bits of it away until you finally realize what has broken these
characters so much. It's great though, really. I mean, of course it
was a little frustrating – but it kept me GLUED to the pages
because I couldn't wait to figure the mystery out.
This is a great love story with great
characters. Even the background characters were great. The only thing
I would have changed (a little) is the ending. Not that I didn't like
the way it ended, but because I felt like I needed to know more about
these two characters. I needed to read more happy moments between
these two, because through most of the book they were just...sad.
It's not enough for me to just KNOW that they lived happily ever
after... I need some details. Just...something more. I will
definitely be reading the other books in this series, I can't wait to
get a chance. The other books are based on different characters, but
they are characters that met in this book. Oh, and fyi – there are
a couple of really steamy scenes. There's not too much detail – but
probably the right amount for most people. Personally, I would have
liked to have had more detail – because these scenes were hot ;)
