Synopsis:
After a fire destroys seventeen-year-old Julia's home and kills her foster parents, she chases the half-demon responsible across the country and back, determined to avenge her family and discover why a host of celestial baddies want her dead. With Julia is enigmatic hottie Cayne, who has his own score to settle with the half-demon, and who might be just as dangerous as the creature he and Julia hunt.
Review:
After the only family members she has
ever known are killed, Julia travels across the country to kill the
evil demon responsible. Julia meets half demon Cayne, who has his own
personal vendetta against the demon. Julia and Cayne team up, find
companionship, and come across startling revelations along the way.
Julia is a teenage girl that has had
bad luck in life. After being in and out of foster homes her whole
life, and having her foster parents die in a fire that was meant for
her, Julia doesn't have a whole lot to live for. Julia is a strong
character though, and she keeps on going. She doesn't have much time
to grieve before all the action and danger takes over.
Cayne is pretty frustrating for awhile.
He isn't exactly the most friendly person. He is a very, very
mysterious individual. He slowly warms up to Julia, and there are
actually some funny moments. I wouldn't really call this a romance
though. There's a point where Julia leans in to kiss Cayne for the
first time, and then that's it. The chapter ends and the next chapter
picks up awhile later. No swoonworthy details of the first kiss!
This book started out a little slowly
to me. The beginning just seemed awkward, but maybe it's just me.
Things seemed to flow more smoothly pretty early on, so the
awkwardness didn't last. It was a good story, and pretty unique too.
It was filled with a lot of mystery, action, and adventure. It did
contain a little bit of gore that I wasn't expecting. It was a pretty
entertaining book throughout though, and has a big cliffhanger at the
end that will leave you anxious for the next book.
