Review:
Tempt My Heart is a standalone romance
novel by Danielle Jamie. This is a heartbreaking story about a girl
named Brittan. This story spans several years. In the beginning,
Brittan meets a sweet boy named Cane and falls in love. They
eventually get engaged and plan their lives together. Everything is
perfect. After 9/11 happens, Cane feels that it is his duty to enlist
in the military and fight for his country. This decision ends up
costing him his life, and Brittan's life spirals out of control. I'll
admit that the first ¼ of this book is very hard to read. It's very
sad and emotional. The author does a tremendous job at making you
feel Brittan's emotions about losing the love of her life. I even had
tears in my eyes and I'm not a crier.
About ¼ of the way into the book, we
finally meet Jordan. It's been 8 years since Cane's death, and
Brittan is still having trouble dealing with it. At this point in her
life, Brittan has a very successful career with her band. They are
getting ready to start a new tour, and Brittan meets Jordan – the
guitarist for the band that will be their opening act. I just have
to say that I hate the way these two meet. I don't really understand
why Brittan is the way she is. I mean, I understand that she doesn't
want another relationship because she feels like she would be
cheating on Cane – but yet she sleeps around with everyone! She is
constantly having one night stands and then feeling guilty about it
afterward – but she continues to do so. When Brittan and Jordan
first meet, it's only minutes until his hand is in her panties.
Personally, I like a little build up before characters get to that
point.
Brittan tries to keep Jordan away after
their first hookup, but he is determined not to stay away. No matter
how hard Brittan tries, she can't resist him. She really struggles
with her feeling for him, because she feels like she shouldn't be
having feelings for any other man. Jordan is really sweet and patient
with her. He knows her history and is really understanding. You would
think that he would feel like he was constantly living behind Cane's
shadow, but it's not like that at all. He understands that Cane's
memories will always be part of Brittan's life. She even still wears
Cane's ring, but Jordan doesn't seem to mind.
This book has a good message to it –
it's possible to have 2 soul-mates in one lifetime. I'm sure this is
a hard concept for people to believe when they are grieving, and I
hope I never have to deal with this issue. I did feel like there was
something missing during the second half of the book. I guess since
Brittan and Jordan's relationship started out sexual, there was
nothing to look forward to and it took the excitement out of seeing
their relationship build. Overall though, it's a good book. There are
some very steamy parts so I don't recommend it to those who are
squeamish about sex scenes.
