Excerpt:

Jared slid his arm into mine, and every nerve in my body woke up. “Come on, I’ll take you back to your room. I need to walk off some of this energy before bed anyway.”

“You don’t need to do this,” I said as we moved to the elevator together. “I can get back by myself.”

“I’m not going anywhere until I make sure you get to your room safely. I can’t have my guitarist injuring herself again.” He winked and hit the elevator button while I leaned against him, taking comfort in his strength. His breath ruffled my hair as he quietly added, “Besides, I’m worried about you.”

The elevator door opened, and we stumbled in. “Really, Jared, I’m fine. It’s just a twisted ankle, not that big a deal—”

The door shut and his lips were on mine, cutting me off mid-sentence. His kiss was tentative and searching, a question he wanted me to answer, but I was so surprised I just stood there while my brain caught up to what was happening.

He pulled away and ran a hand through his dark hair. “Sorry. I’ve wanted to do that forever, and when I saw you fall…”

My mouth opened but no sound came out. I swallowed and tried again. “You’ve wanted to do that forever?”

“I know it’s a bad idea. We have to stay single while we’re on the show, and the guys would kill me if they found out, and you’re into that Sean guy anyway…” His voice trailed off, and he looked away.

I’d never seen Jared be anything but cool and confident, and it sent a thrill through me, knowing I’d done that to him. The elevator didn’t move, waiting for us to hit a button, but suddenly I didn’t want to go back to my room anymore. I grabbed the collar of Jared’s jacket and pulled him down to my mouth, kissing him hard, showing him that he was the one I wanted.

We broke apart long enough for me to whisper, “It is a bad idea, but I don’t care.”

“Good. Because I can’t resist you any longer.” And then our mouths met again.

We kissed like we were drowning and our only hope of living was each other. He devoured my mouth with his tongue and lips while I tangled my fingers into his thick hair, drawing him closer. Knowing we shouldn’t be doing this only gave our passion a desperate edge, a recklessness that had us gasping and clawing at each other, like we had to cram everything into this one brief moment we were alone. His hands slid down to cup my butt and lift me to his height, my back slamming against the side of the elevator, my skirt riding up to my hips. While he pinned me to the wall and teased me with his mouth, I smoothed my hands across his rough jaw, down his neck, along his broad shoulders. After weeks of fighting my desire for Jared, I needed to touch every inch of him, with my fingers, with my lips, with my entire body.

The elevator started moving, though neither of us had pushed a button. It said, “Lobby,” and reality came crashing back, like a bucket of water had been tossed on us. We broke apart to opposite corners, breathing heavily. I yanked my skirt down just as the door opened.

For fans of dark urban fantasy comes a novel that questions why forbidden fruit is always the most tempting...

It’s obvious that they’ve been struck by the same intense mutual attraction, but Alec keeps his distance. Intrigued despite herself, Nora pushes a little deeper — and discovers Alec’s unimaginable secret...

Nora is not afraid of following Alec into the darkness, but the choice is soon taken from her. Someone is hunting her — someone tied to the secret and desperate to see it play out. But when Nora finally meets her aggressor, she finds herself hopelessly drawn to him. She needs to make a choice between the two men, but can she save them both, knowing one is destined to die?

Excerpt:
I storm out of his office feeling superior until I get into the hall. Away from Henry, the reality of what he is saying, of what Alec has told me, starts to sink in. What am I doing? Henry is right; I can’t fight supernatural forces from as far back as the Bible. I can barely pass statistics!
I don’t know where to go or whom to turn to, and I debate about running back to Henry and asking him to save me from myself. That won’t solve anything, though, because his solution will be to let Alec face his death alone. It may have only been a week, but there is something about Alec; I feel like something brought us together for a reason, that maybe I can save him. It’s probably arrogance, because how many years of human history have passed? What makes me, a 22-year-old girl from Delaware, think that I can change something that has never been changed since man began? Yet, despite all evidence to the contrary, I do think I can; I just need to be pointed in the right direction.
I jump when a hand brushes the back of my neck. I turn and Caleb, along with all of his danger and desire, stands behind me. He smirks, seeing that he has accomplished his goal of catching me off guard. The dark hall of the academic building seems to glow where he is standing and I take a deep breath, warning myself not to find him attractive. When his lip curls up in an actual smile, though, my body stops listening to my mind. I really wish I could turn it off when it comes to Caleb; I know he is wrong for me and that he and his brother do not get along. Knowing that Alec sees him as a threat doesn’t help either, but still my nerves seem to react to his body as he gets closer.
‘I always seem to find you talking to that professor of yours. Should I warn someone of ethical violations?’
‘He’s dating my roommate,’ I reply. ‘And I am dating your brother.’
‘Dating. That is such a silly word,’ he teases, closing the gap between us completely and running a hand along my neck to the back of my head, his fingers lacing their way into my hair. ‘My brother is lucky but he is also stupid. I don’t suppose he warned you —’
‘He told me everything,’ I say.
‘I sincerely doubt that. I also sincerely doubt that you will be any different from his last failed love affair. Mortals are weak and none weaker than a woman in love.’
I may be just a college girl and I may be naive, a little stupid, and in over my head. However, no one calls me weak and I stomp on Caleb’s foot, breaking free of his hold. He groans and looks at me, surprise mixing with admiration in his expression.
‘Don’t call me weak. Your brother seems to be convinced that he will die, unless he finds someone, so how about you help me?’ I ask.
‘You really don’t know, do you?’ His amusement irritates me and makes me feel like a child.
‘Know what?’
‘Why on earth would I help you prevent my brother from being killed when I am the one to kill him?’

Excerpt:
“Wait,” I shouted. I searched for the right words. All I came up with was, “Why did you take so many pictures of me? Do you like me?” My face heated. I sounded like a dorky ten-year old boy on the playground at recess. I plowed ahead anyway. “Did the kiss mean as much to you as it did to me?”
There was only one way to find out. I took a step forward and touched my lips to hers. Her lips were warm and soft. I thought she’d slap me and tell me to get the fuck away from her, but she didn’t. She closed her eyes and sank into the kiss, kissing me back. I teased her lips open with my tongue. She responded and our tongues swirled around each other. The last kiss I shared with Stella was just a small preview. This was downright epic. I felt things I’d never felt before.
I moved my lips down her pale throat and kissed her softly. She reached up and wrapped her arms around my neck. I pulled her closer until our chests were smashed against each other’s, and I wondered if she could feel my heart beating. It pounded hard and loud. A soft sigh escaped her lips and I knew this wasn’t one-sided. She felt things too. I returned my attention to her mouth, biting her bottom lip, losing myself in the taste of her sweet lips. It was like being pulled under by a giant wave in a hurricane and then not knowing which way was up or down. I realized I didn’t know and I didn’t care. I never wanted to resurface. I was right where I wanted to be. Lost in a sea of emotions and passion with Stella at the center of the storm. I cupped the back of her head, deepening the kiss even further.
Suddenly she pulled away and I couldn’t breathe. I felt like a fish out of water. I wanted to reach for her and pull her back to me because nothing in my entire life had felt so right, but the look on her face told me not to. “What was that?” She narrowed her eyes at me.
“We were kissing.” She had moaned my name at one point and pressed her hot body against mine. There was no way in hell she hadn’t been enjoying it. “And you liked it.”
“No, Theo.” She called me Theo again. I was beginning to hate my own name. “I can’t do this with you.”
“I know you felt that too,” I argued. I didn’t understand why she was pretending she hadn’t been affected. She’d kissed me back. It had been honest and true.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about. I didn’t feel anything.” It was the same words she’d said last time after we kissed, only this time I knew she was lying. Her voice was shaky. Her body still trembled with aftershocks. I just didn’t understand why she’d lie. I stood on her porch for several minutes after she went inside, trying to figure out how I was going to get Stella to forgive me and recognize what we could have if she’d give me a chance.

Review:

Fever is the first book in the Songbird series by Melissa Pearl. It's a brand new New Adult novel about finding yourself and finding true love. This book is about a young woman named Ella, who moves across the country to attend the college that her boyfriend wants her to. Her boyfriend David has all these plans for his life – that include her – and since she doesn't really know what she wants to do she goes along with anything David wants. However, once she joins David at college – she meets someone else. Someone that likes the same things as Ella, and someone who truly gets her and her love of music.

Ella is a pretty weak heroine – but one that I kind of identified with. She is shy and timid like I am. I understood her fears and why she is the way that she is. She desperately needs comfort and stability in her life – and David gives her that. After 3 years, she has never thought about dating another man. David is the only man that she has been intimate with, and after meeting his friend Cole she realizes that there aren't any sparks between her and David anymore. She is very attracted to Cole. And then she is attracted to the singing voice that she hears on the other side of the shower wall in the co-ed dorms. It confuses her so much to be thinking about other men. Only, she doesn't know that the person she hears singing is her boyfriend's best friend Cole.

Cole is a great guy. He is handsome and sweet. There are major sparks between him and Ella. He also hears Ella singing in the shower and can't get her out of his head. They have so much in common and are perfect for each other in every way. Though, they both feel guilty over their feelings for each other because of David. I personally didn't like David at all.

There are a couple of steamy sex scenes in this book but they aren't overly descriptive. I thought the ending was a little abrupt – I wanted a little bit more! It was a great story and I'll definitely be reading the other books in this series. Sounds like the next book will be about Ella's friend Morgan. If you like New Adult contemporary romances, then I definitely recommend this book!

Review: Texas Hold 'Em by Christie Craig

Title: Texas Hold 'Em (Hotter In Texas #3)
Author: Christie Craig
Source: Received from author in exchange for an honest review

Synopsis:

The last thing veterinarian Leah Reece needs is a man in her life. They're nothing but trouble-and not even the fun kind. But when her apartment is broken into and Leah suspects Rafael, her dangerous half-brother, of foul play, she can't deny she could use a little help. She just never expected that help would come with twinkling blue eyes and a sexy smile...

All PI Austin Brook wants is to nail Rafael DeLuna, the man who framed him for murder. He'll do anything for information-even lie about his identity to charm Leah, DeLuna's half-sister. But her sweet dimples and fiery spirit soon make her more than just his only lead. Leah becomes his every desire. As Austin closes in on DeLuna, it's clear he won't go down without a fight. Now the only way Austin can protect Leah is to reveal all of his secrets and risk losing her for good.

Review:

Texas Hold 'Em is the third (and final) book in the Hotter In Texas series by Christie Craig. This book features the third member of the PI business, Austin Brook. Austin and his PI buddies have been working to get their hands on Rafael – the man who framed them for murder and put them behind bars. Austin isn't a very patient man, and he's a little reckless, so he's willing to do whatever it takes to catch their enemy.

Austin moves into an apartment building – right next to Rafael's half sister – in order to get information on where Rafael might be hiding. Austin just didn't expect to be so attracted to her. Leah is a veterinarian who isn't interested in having a man in her life. After having her husband cheat on her, she is convinced that men can't be trusted.

Austin is handsome and cocky – he isn't used to having to chase after a woman. He's used to women falling for his natural charm. Leah proves to be more difficult than he ever imagined. She has built her walls so high that no man can tear them down. After time, Austin finally gets Leah to trust him but he starts to fall for her in the process. He feels guilty for all he has done to deceive her.

I love the storyline about Austin being terrified of cats, and Leah having 4. This brings a lot of entertainment to the book. There were some steamy scenes, but it took a long time to get there. The book focused a lot on the action/suspense part of the story. Austin was a really likable character. Leah was a little harder to like but she wasn't so bad. I almost enjoyed the secondary romance more – between Roberto and Sara. It was more emotion filled.

This book wrapped up the series well. I love the humor in Christie Craig's books. I recommend this series to anyone who enjoys contemporary romance with some added humor.
