Title: Crush
Author: Lacey Weatherford
Source: Received from author in exchange for an honest review
Synopsis:
Cami Wimberley has a plan, and that plan includes no room for boys—especially the big time party animal, Hunter Wilder, no matter how handsome and charismatic he is. She’s beautiful, a senior, extremely talented, gets good grades, and is working her way toward her dream college to be a musical theater major. Everything is perfect.
Hunter Wilder does not want a girlfriend—that would complicate his life way too much right now. He especially doesn’t want this girl, Miss-Goody-Two-Shoes, so how come he can’t keep his eyes off her? He tries to keep her at arms length, but fate seems to keep pushing them together. Before long, it’s obvious to everyone they’re crushing on each other.
As sparks begin to fly, Hunter finds himself sinking deeper and deeper into hot water. Soon he’s scrambling to keep Cami from discovering his dark secret—one that can destroy their entire relationship.
Review:
Lacey Weatherford is one of my favorite
authors, so when I was given the chance to review an advanced copy of
this, I couldn't pass it up! I had a feeling that I would love it,
and I wasn't wrong... Crush is AH-MAY-ZING. We get to read the point
of view from Cami and Hunter, which I loved. I always like knowing
what is going on in the other person's head. Cami is a 17 year old
senior with a great head on her shoulders. She is seen as a bit
nerdy, because her best guy-friend is a nerd and she doesn't do the
party scene. Hunter is a new guy at school, who has quite the
reputation with drugs and girls. Cami can't help but notice how
attractive he is, but he is definitely not her type.
Despite reading from Hunter's point of
view as well, he still remains a BIG mystery though the majority of
the book. He has a very complicated life, made up of a string of
lies. He shouldn't be getting involved with anyone, but he can't stay
away from Cami. Hunter is the handsome, smooth-talking guy that all
the girls just drool over. One word: Swoonworthy. That's what will
come to mind when you read about Hunter.
Cami reminds me of myself in ways –
she doesn't hang with the cool crowd, is considered a
goody-two-shoes, etc... Yet, the logical part of her brain isn't
necessarily working when she is wrapped up in Hunter's arms. These
two have major – and I mean MAJOR – passion. Sparks were flying
off the pages throughout the entire book. With reading from both
points of view, you get to feel double the passion. Lacey Weatherford
is amazing at writing intensely passionate scenes for young adults –
I'm getting really curious at what she could come up with for adults!
The romance isn't the only thing going
on in the book, it has many different levels to it. There is death
and drug use involved. It's sad, but at the same time sends a good
message. I absolutely loved the plot of this book – I was amazed
once all the pieces started coming together. I soooo did not want
this book to end. I don't know if this book will be part of a series
or not, but Lacey – I need more Cami and Hunter!!!!
This book will be available on October 20th!
