Review: My Wolf's Bane by Veronica Blade

Title: My Wolf's Bane (Shapes of Autumn #1)
Author: Veronica Blade
Source: Received from publisher through blog tour in exchange for an honest review

Synopsis:

NOTE FROM THE PUBLISHER: As with any Veronica Blade book, this is a ROMANCE NOVEL, meaning it's romance FIRST and everything else is secondary. Rated PG-13 for sexual situations and mild profanity.

Different species. Mortal enemies. It'll never work, but they'll die trying.

Autumn Rossi thought she was a normal teenager. Suddenly, she can outrun every critter in the forest, making her wonder if she’s even human.

When the new guy at school, Zack de Luca, witnesses a questionable scene, he unfairly pins her as stuck-up. He acts like he hates her, yet he keeps bailing her out of trouble. Not only is Zack both insufferable and irresistible, he seems to sniff her anytime he gets close.

As passion flares between them, Autumn isn’t sure which is more dangerous: her psycho ex-boyfriend, or falling for Zack — who’s risking his life just by being near her.

Review:

My Wolf's Bane is the first book in the new Shapes of Autumn series by Veronica Blade. If you love YA Paranormal Romances, then you will love this. Autumn is a teenage girl who always thought she was human. Odd changes start happening to her, but she's too afraid to mention it to her parents. They are already extremely over protective of her.

A handsome new guy named Zack starts at Autumn's school. He is cold and distant with her, but she can't get him out of her mind. Every time she's stuck in a bind, he is always there at her rescue. For various reasons, they end up spending a lot of time together. Autumn is falling for Zach and doesn't understand why he is keeping her at a distance. She keeps feeling heartbroken and rejected. Turns out, it doesn't matter how Zack feels for her – they are not supposed to be together anyway.

The romance was the main focus in this book, which I liked. I always love when the romance is front and center. The characters had great chemistry and everything happened slowly to draw out that sexual tension. There was a background plot happening as well that added danger and suspense to the mix. Luckily, there was no cliffhanger. There were some unanswered questions though, especially with Autumn's parents, so I'm hoping these will be addressed in the next book. I think that werewolf and shape-shifter lovers will really enjoy this story.
