Review: Frigid by J. Lynn

 Title: Frigid (Frigid #1)
Author: J. Lynn
Source: Purchased

Synopsis:

For twenty-one-year-old Sydney, being in love with Kyler isn't anything new. They'd been best friends ever since he pushed her down on the playground and she made him eat a mud pie. Somewhere over the years, she fell for him and fell hard. The big problem with that? Kyler puts the 'man' in man-whore. He's never stayed with a girl longer than a few nights, and with it being their last year in college, Syd doesn't want to risk their friendship by declaring her love.

Kyler has always put Syd on a pedestal that was too high for him to reach. To him, she's perfect and she's everything. But the feelings he has for her, he's always hidden away or focused on any other female. After all, Kyler will always be the poor boy from the wrong side of tracks, and Syd will always be the one girl he can never have.

But when they're stranded together at a posh ski resort due to a massive Nor'easter, there's nothing stopping their red-hot feelings for each other from coming to the surface. Can their friendship survive the attraction? Better yet, can they survive at all? Because as the snow falls, someone is stalking them, and this ski trip may be a life-changer in more ways than one.

My Review:

Frigid is the first book in a new series by Jennifer Armentrout, writing as J. Lynn. It's a New Adult contemporary romance about a girl named Sydney, who has been best friends with Kyler since they were in elementary school. Somewhere along the way, Sydney fell in love with Kyler. She doesn't tell him though. After all, he has a constant stream of girls in his bed. She seems to be the only girl that Kyler hasn't had sex with.

Kyler plans the yearly trip to the ski resort for their group of friends. Sydney rides up with Kyler, and everyone else rides up separately. However, there's a horrible snow storm and the others aren't able to make it. Sydney and Kyler end up being stranded together during the storm. Both characters secretly pine for the other but neither will admit it. After being stranded for awhile, and after some interesting things happened, Sydney grew some balls and basically told him that she wanted him. Things got really hot and steamy after that.

I know there are some complaints out there over Sydney's character, but I really liked her. I totally identified with her. She has self-esteem issues and her mind is always wandering thinking of the worst possible thing. When it comes to sex, I think she has good reason to be so self cautious like she is. And I like the fact that she would rather read a book than go partying.

I liked Kyler too...I know a lot of female readers are gushing over his character. I like how protective he is over Sydney. But...the fact that he is a man-whore is a turn-off. If I were Sydney, I'd be afraid I'd get a disease or something...

The plot was fairly predictable, but there was some danger and suspense added in to the mix. There were some humorous moments as well. I was glad to see that there were some chapters from Kyler's point of view. It's always nice to know what the guy is thinking. And I liked the double meaning for the title. If you like sexy, romantic New Adult books, then I would give this one a try.
