Blood Eternal blog tour!

Welcome to my stop on the Blood Eternal blog tour! Author Marie Treanor released her newest book in the Awakened by Blood series this week. Blood Eternal is book #3 in a vampire romance series. I am currently reading this steamy series, and will post reviews of all three books as soon as possible. I have been honored to have the opportunity to interview Marie Treaner - keep reading to learn more about this author!

When did you begin writing?

Almost as soon as I could hold a pencil :) I was always scribbling stories, first for my family and friends, then just for myself. The habit continued into adulthood, and I always had the vague idea that I would be a published writer one day; but I didn’t really try seriously until around the time my kids were born, and I was doing a job that I hated so much I was desperate to find a way out! Around the same time, I discovered romance novels and ebooks, and was blown away by the sheer imagination I found there. I had to try for myself!

What is your biggest challenge of being an author?

Promotion, I think! These days all authors have to promote their work – after all, no point in writing and publishing books if no one knows they’re there! However, it’s not something that comes easily to me – I’m obviously too shy and retiring :)

What do you love most about being an author?

Apart from living in my imagination? When a reader contacts me just to say how much she enjoyed one of my books – that’s what really makes it worth while.

What would your ideal career be, if you couldn't be an author?

I think I’d always want to work with books in some way. I used to be a librarian :)

What do you do in your spare time?

What spare time??? :) I read, watch a very little tv, hang out with my family and friends… I like good food and wine. I also enjoy music, cinema, theatre, although I don’t seem to go very often any more!

Approximately how long does it take for you to write a book?

It depends on the book – the length of it, how easily the story comes, and how many other things there are going on in my life at the time. In a rush, I can do a novella in a couple of weeks. A full length novel takes maybe three months if all goes well.

Which of your characters is your favorite?

Which ever one is haunting me at the time! At the moment it has to be Saloman from the Awakened by Blood books, because he’s on my mind a lot. Well, he’s an overwhelmingly sexy devil - or rather vampire :)

What are some of your favorite movies/tv shows?

I don’t watch a huge amount of tv these days – too much competition from husband and kids who all have their own ideas of what’s good! I’ve taken to watching things in whole series on video or “on demand” tv. At the moment, I love True Blood. Before that, I liked Warehouse 13, and the new BBC Sherlock Holmes, set in the modern day, and before that Flash Forward, which I was sorry to see end for good! And I always enjoy Dr. Who when I can see it.

As far as movies go, I love the fun of Pirates of the Caribbean and Shrek – which are the only films all my kids can agree on! I still love The Princess Bride, and old favourites like Harvey… I love Bela Lugosi’a Dracula, and all the old Hammer Horror films, and most things with an eerie, Gothic atmosphere. Bram Stoker’s Dracula was wonderful too. Robert Downie Jr’s Sherlock Holmes is rather fab. Oh and the Lord of the Rings trilogy is amazing!

Do you have any advice for other writers?

I find that hard, because all authors seem to find different ways to success! But in general terms, I’d say: don’t give up, do listen to feedback, and keep reading as well as writing.

What are you currently working on?

A strange new story involving a ruined world and ghosts, with a hot romance and just a hint of steampunk :) What can I say? I’m a genre hopper!

About the author:

Marie Treanor lives in Scotland with her eccentric husband and three much-too-smart children. Having grown bored with city life, she resides these days in a picturesque village by the sea where she is lucky enough to enjoy herself avoiding housework and writing sensual stories of paranormal romance and fantasy.

  3. Thanks, Kristi! Hope you enjoy it :).

Well, I TRY to be focused. If I manage it, three months is possible. If I don't, anything's possible, including other stories in between :). Glad you enjoyed the interview!

I was just curious if you are starting another series or thinking about what you are going to write next. Have been following your tour. My bday is Oct 15th and asking for gift cards from husband and kids and going out to get this book. Thanks for writing the great books, and we will keep buying and reading.

  5. Hi Chris, nice to see you here! Thanks for the kind words - great to hear :).

Yes, I have a couple of new stories in the works. Things have been so hectic with the release of BLOOD ETERNAL, though, that I haven't had time to do any writing for a few weeks! I'll be back to it soon :).
