Review: Lust After Death by Daisy Harris

Title: Lust After Death
Author: Daisy Harris
Source: received through blog tour in exchange for an honest review

Synopsis:

In the Pacific Northwest, where life hurries to keep pace with technology, a re-animated bride named Josie struggles to escape her creator and to find her identity in the half-erased circuitry of her mind and body.

Assassin Bane Connor just wants to get the girl to the Zombie Underground and receive his payoff-a mental reset that will erase his memories as well as his guilt. But an attack by a rival faction derails his rescue, and the wide-eyed female whose circuitry requires a husband tears at his hardened heart and ignites desire like he's never known.

Acting as Josie's spouse-substitute is tougher than Bane expected. The newborn stein needs touch to live, and wanting her is a complication he doesn't need. To make matters worse, she sees into the darkest recesses of his mind. The last thing a killer wants is for his lover to read his thoughts, but if Josie can love him the way he's programmed, perhaps Bane can find a way to heal his past.

Review:

Josie is a newly made zombie – created to become a wife to a scientist named Adam. The zombies in this story are all programmed differently – depending on what characteristics the maker wants. I've never really been drawn to zombie books, but I really enjoyed this one. There was no gory brain-eating moments. Well, there was a meal involved, but it was briefly mentioned and we don't know exactly what was eaten. And probably don't want to know.

A sexy assassin named Bane shows up to rescue Josie from her maker. Bane is a zombie – or stein (as in Frankenstein) as well – and they are instantly attracted to each other. This world that the author has created is very unique and well written. You don't think about zombies being high tech, but these ones are. Josie adds humor to this story because she was not programmed to know slang terms. She is very naïve and has this innocence that you don't imagine zombies having.

Josie was also programmed to need a lot of skin-to-skin contact. This leads to some very hottt moments between her and Bane while they are hiding from the bad guys. Because of the novella length, this is a very fast paced book and a quick read. I recommend this to adult paranormal lovers who like a lot of sizzle with their reading!

  1. Ooh this sounds like my kind of zombie book. I love the naive innocence because I imagine she is extremely literal. That is always hilarious to me.
