Review: My Familiar Stranger by Victoria Danann

 Title: My Familiar Stranger
Author: Victoria Danann
Source: Free on Amazon

Synopsis:

A SECRET SOCIETY, HOT HEROES, AND VAMPIRES come together where chance intersects romance for a once-in-a-lifetime adventure proving that true love can find you in the strangest places, even far, far from home.

Minutes ahead of inevitable assassination, Elora Laiken is forcibly transported to an alternate dimension similar, but not identical, to her own. She is stranded. Alone. Far from home. A stranger in a "strangish" land. Of course a girl could suffer worse problems than having gorgeous suitors. Perhaps more importantly, in the midst of an epidemic of vampire related abductions, can she stay alive long enough to choose between an honor debt, true love, or the breathlessness of single-minded passion?

My Familiar Stranger is a full length, stand-alone, Paranormal/Fantasy Romance novel that also sets up the foundation for the Black Swan series. It is loved by fans of paranormal romance, fantasy romance, and urban fantasy.

Review:

My Familiar Stranger is the first book in The Order of the Black Swan series by Victoria Danann. It's a great paranormal romance that is hard to put down. While Elora Laiken's family is being slaughtered, she is pushed into an alternate dimension which saves her life. Everything in this dimension is pretty similar to her home, but yet different too. She is in a new place, without anyone she knows – and on top of that, she is healing from horrific injuries her body endured while being transferred in the portal.

She ends up in the perfect place though – a place that protects humans from vampires. She is perfectly safe with handsome men all around her. Slowly, there develops a love triangle which I wasn't expecting in the beginning. First we have Storm – who is caring and nuturing. He sets with Elora daily while she recovers and they quickly form a friendship. The other love interest is Ram – a charming and funny guy who always manages to make Elora laugh. Both guys are wonderful but also so different from each other. There is actually another guy who develops feeling for Elora – a handsome vampire named Baka. He seems so lonely and sweet, despite the reputation he has. He will capture your heart.

As much as I liked this book, I think it could have been shorter. It seemed long, and dragged out in places. There were a lot of unneeded descriptions as well. The second half of the book I loved though. The slow moving romance started heating up and some action was thrown in as well. There are several humorous moments that I thoroughly enjoyed.

This is a unique book that I recommend to any paranormal romance lovers. Elora is an awesome heroine that you will love. I'm really looking forward to the other books in this series and am happy to see that a couple of other characters in this book get their own stories.
