Review: Legend of the Oceina Dragon

Synopsis:

Darien Oceina is the youngest son of the Great Dragon Lord of the Water. For years he's loved and cherished Tai Dawson from afar. Tai is a simple, ordinary girl who doesn't even know Darien exists. On his eighteenth birthday, he chooses her as his wife. But there’s one problem: She thinks his choice means she's going to be offered as a sacrifice to the Dragon Lord, but instead, she’s forced to move to his home, far away, to give up her life and be his bride.

When she first sees Darien after the ceremony, she doesn’t expect to feel anything but hatred toward him. The two are struggling with the complications of a new marriage when their nation is attacked by a rival dragon species. Together they learn to love one another while they struggle to stay one step ahead in a game where the prize is their survival.

Review:

Overall, this was a pretty good story. It is original in the fact that it's about dragons who can shift into human form. These dragons are only born male, so they choose a female human to marry from an island the dragons protect. The people of the island know about the dragon's existence, but the fact that the dragons can take on a human form is kept secret. When the dragon turns 18 and chooses a wife from the island, everyone on the island believes that the chosen girl is a sacrifice. She is never seen again and believed to be dead.

When Tai is chosen to be the sacrifice, she thinks she is going to die. Not until she is taken to the island the dragons live on, and goes through the ceremony, does she find out that she has been chosen to be a wife to Darien.

Tai is not a happy camper, which is understandable considering everyone she knows thinks she's dead and she will never see them again. I really liked the character of Darien though, and felt that Tai was too cold to him. Darien can't help the customs of his people. Before he chose Tai to be his wife, he had watched her for years from afar and fell in love with her. He is head over heels for her and she is just cruel to him.

There was a little too much of dragon politics in this book for my taste. Darien has to leave Tai a couple of different times during the book to attend meetings that were far away. I thought that these times were a little boring. I wanted to see more of them together so they could sort things out. Personally, I didn't feel any spark between these two at all during the book, and that is an aspect that is really important to me. I love the cover of the book, and the storyline really does have potential. I think that having less dragon politics and more sexual tension would move this book to a 4 star review from me.

  1. I have been eyeing this book. I enjoyed your take on it, but I think I will work on my TBR pile before I pick this one up.
