Review: Dirty Blood

Dirty Blood by Heather Hildenbrand
Synopsis:

I killed a girl last night. I did it with my bare hands and an old piece of pipe I found lying next to the dumpster. But that’s not the part that got me. The part that scared me, the part I can’t seem to wrap my head around and still has me reeling, was that when she charged me, her body shifted – and then she was a wolf. All snapping teeth and extended claws. But by the time I stood over her lifeless body, she was a girl again. That’s about the time I went into shock… And that was the moment he showed up.

Now, all I can do is accept the truths that are staring me in the face. One, Werewolves do exist. And Two, I was born to kill them.

Review:

I loved this book! It's a wonderful young adult romance about Werewolves and Hunters. It's about a high school girl named Tara who finds out that she was born to kill Werewolves. Honestly, I'm not exactly sure how old Tara is - maybe I missed that part? I'd say 16-17, old enough to drive anyway. In the beginning of the book, a wolf attacks Tara and instincts just take over. She somehow manages to kill the wolf, who then turns back into her human form. Tara starts freaking out when she realizes she has killed a human, and this is where Wes comes into the story.

Wes will have any young girl or *cough* older girl swooning. He calms Tara down, takes her to her house, and later reveals that she is a Hunter. Of course, Wes in a Werewolf so they shouldn't be drawn to each other - but they are. I just love romances where 2 people know they shouldn't be together, but can't help themselves. Really, there was only one thing that bothered me about this book - the wolves can talk while in wolf form. I'm sure the author was just trying to be a little different from all the other wolf stories out there, but it was kind of weird to me.

There is a lot of action in this book, which basically starts at the beginning. It's fast paced, and kept me interested the whole way through. I really liked Tara - she's spunky, stubborn, adventurous, and a very realistic representation of a teenage girl. You have the mother/daughter fights, boyfriend troubles, and other things that teenage girls can relate to. However, Tara is at the top of a list of people who want her dead because of her abilities. This keeps the story action packed and interesting. I was bummed when this book came to an end. There was a bit of a cliff-hanger and now I'm dying to know what happens next. I'm sure I read somewhere that there will be another book, but I don't know when. If Heather asks me to review her 2nd book, I will jump at the chance *hint*hint :)
