Welcome to the Autism Awareness Giveaway Hop! Autism awareness is really important to me, because we have recently found out that our 7 year old son has Asperger's - which is a high functioning form of Autism. We didn't catch it early on - we just thought he had a lot of odd quirks about him. As he gets older, we are seeing just how differently he acts compared with other kids his age. His school is great - they have set up an IEP for him (Individual Education Plan). He sees a few special education teachers throughout his day, but most of his time is spent in his classroom. The one-on-one time that he has been getting is really helping. Considering that Autism affects 1 in every 70 boys, many of you may know families affected by it. Sometimes it's really tricky coming up with ways to help your child cope. The older my son gets, the more I'm afraid that kids are going to start making fun of him for acting different. Kids can be really cruel. I don't personally know anyone else with a child on the Autism spectrum and this hop is a wonderful way for us to connect! I am also up for hearing any tips or tricks you may have for helping your child cope!

What a great giveaway....my son has sensory processing disorder- a condition shared by most individuals with Autism. In fact that was his first diagnosis. I would love to get him some sensory products with this GC. What a great idea. Thanks again.

My older brother is autistic and having spent my entire childhood explaining to countless people what "Autism" was, it is so refreshing now that people are trying to learn about it and understand it. I can only hope and pray that the efforts of so many to increase autism awareness will better the lives of children with autism. Thank you for the role you are playing in this!

ReplyDeleteMy 3.5 year old just underwent an evaluation for autism. They think he's definitely on the spectrum, in some high-functioning form. Apparently we get another evaluation in a few months to get more specifics.
ReplyDeleteMy 3 yr old son is on the spectrum and life with him is always challenging. Thanks so much for participating in the hop!
